Tornado Damage

I don't have time to say a lot, this is from Starbucks as I grab coffee for us and neighbors while charging up our cell phones.  Just a look at our neighborhood, I have never seen anything like this in my life.  It breaks my heart to see our beautiful historic neighborhood lose so much of it's defining charm.  But I know that doesn't really matter, I am just glad most neighbors got through this safely.

Here's our big problem.... that is part of a tree going through our roof and into our guest room.  It is connected to half of a 100 year old tree that has made a GIANT hole in our roof.  We have a tarp over the hole for now and insurance and construction contractors are coming out today.
So sad!  Goodbye pretty guest room :(

But that doesn't really matter, I am so thankful we are safe and that we have great neighbors to lean on through this.  I also have to say thank you for all of the wonderful and thoughtful messages my blog friends have sent our way.  It means a lot to read something nice when you are having an awful day.  Thank you!
The name of the game is clean up now, all of those old trees are blocked lots of roads and alley ways that we need open to get help here.  Bust out your chainsaws!

Hope things go well with the insurance, I hear this can be an awful process.

  8. I am not sure how many of your readers are local but I found this FB page that is helping notify residents outside of N. Mpls of how they can help with disaster relief. Hope it helps!

I hope things are coming together. I know it's been a scary 24+ hours, but you have a great outlook on things. Just think of it as one giant DIY project. Stay safe!

  9. This is such a sad situation. I am sorry for your house but glad you are safe, so many people weren't. My heart breaks for yall. It brings back the sadness Alabama had and is going through with the tornados. Honestly it has been so awesome to see how people are helping people in times of need. Alabama has had so many pull together for ones that are suffering, I know your state will too!

  10. Wow. Thank you for posting these pictures. So glad to hear you are alright. Your attitude is fantastic! Bummer about your finished pretty guest room (and a loss of lots of cellulose!) but, it's all fixable, thank goodness! Please keep us posted on your neighborhood.

  12. So sorry to hear you were in a tornado-it is very scary! I spent some time in our shelter last night but praise the Lord the tornados did not hit our area. I am in Northwest Arkansas-I actually live in the same block as Diana who has theVintage Home Love blog. I hope the insurance comes through for you and you can get back to normal if that is possible soon. I know it must be hard to lose the trees- just can't be replaced-but your lives and your neighbors are so much more precious!

  14. I was thinking of you all day. The school my sister works at was in the path and is still without power so she had off today and got to help out in the neighborhood. I have off on Friday so I'm hoping to come help soon too! Here's another facebook page for an organization that our church is helping through. http://www.facebook.com/urbanhomeworks Let us know if there's anything we can do for you specifically! Meals, wheels, DIY work when you start working on the bedroom again!?

  15. Oh it's so devastating to see that pretty white bed covered in debris. Like you said, the "stuff" is not what is important, but that picture just seems like a perfect representation of what your neighborhood must be feeling. My heart goes out to you.

  16. Wow, that must be so surreal...so much damage...it's amazing more people weren't hurt. It IS hard to watch your neighborhood change like that and so much clean up and repair... XO
